Every single registered domain name has at least two Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your Internet domain to the servers of a certain hosting provider. That way, you have got both your site and your emails handled by the same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there are a number of other records, for example A and MX. The first one reveals which server handles the website for a given domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one indicates which server deals with the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an example, any time you type a domain in your Internet browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain uses and from there you may be sent to the servers of a different service provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having different records for the site and the e-mails means you can have your website and your e-mails with two different providers if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Web Hosting

If you have a cloud web hosting account with our company and you want to switch either your website or your emails to a different company, it will take you literally simply 2 mouse clicks to do it. Our Hepsia CP provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you'll be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different email provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default two, it will not take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You can even set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a given MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you modify or create isn't going to take more than a few hours and if necessary, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will stay active after it is changed or deleted.
